Praveen Oommen is one of clinical directors of the C.A.R.E. Institute. He has been a practicing physiotherapist for more than 11 years. Praveen graduated with a Master’s degree in physiotherapy from Dr M.G.R Medical University, India. He has academic and clinical experience working in Bangalore (India), Calgary, and currently in Windsor. At the C.A.R.E. Institute, he specializes in orthopedic manual therapy of patients suffering from chronic headaches and spinal problems resulting from workplace and motor vehicle accidents. Praveen has extensive training in Manual Therapy and the McKenzie technique. Praveen is also involved in a clinical supervisory role with both nurse practitioners and physiotherapy students. He is currently pursuing a Doctorate of Science in Physical Therapy (DScPT) specializing in manipulative physiotherapy from Andrews University, Michigan.
Heidi Ross Graduated from Canadian College of Health Science and Technology in 2008 for Registered Massage Therapist at which time she began her career as an original member of the C.A.R.E. Institute team.
Heidi treats clients with muscle strains and injuries and also accepts clients with workplace and motor vehicle accident injuries.
She enjoys living a healthy and active lifestyle in which she participates in running, yoga, and volleyball. Heidi has also completed a half marathon and is hopeful to complete more in the future.
Curtis graduated from Queen`s University in 2011 with a Master of Science in Physical Therapy. Prior to this he receieved two undergraduate degrees in the Physical and Health Education fields.
He has worked at C.A.R.E Institute since November 2012 and focuses predominantly on musculoskeletal injuries, as well as other orthopaedic conditions. He has taken coursework in manual therapy, proprioceptive / sport injury taping, and specializes in providing injury specific exercises. Curtis is an avid golf and squash player during the summer months. He is also the goaltending coach of the University of Windsor Women’s Varsity Hockey Team.
Dr. Andrew Mercer D.C. is born and raised in Windsor. Growing up, Andrew was extremely active playing hockey, soccer, football, and baseball. He studied at the University of Windsor in Human Kinetics with interests in biomechanics, sport psychology, and anatomy. Prior to attending the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College (CMCC) he worked as a Chiropractic Assistant for six years and Andrew completed a co-op placement with the Windsor Spitfires for two years during his completion of his chiropractic degree.
Dr. Mercer has great passion for giving back to his community by working with various surrounding teams including the Windsor Spitfires, AKO Fratmen, and the Kennedy Collegiate football team. Andrew is trained in Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Therapy with SMART tools and is also trained in Athletic Movement Assessment. His passion has always been on being active and helping others and he is now able to pair this with his clinical knowledge and drive his passion towards helping people return to their best functional self. He is dedicated to maintaining and improving his clinical and manual skills by taking continuing education courses.
Dr. Mercer is an evidence based, patient centered, multimodal doctor that is committed to lifelong learning. With extensive knowledge of the body’s soft tissue and repetitive strain injuries he utilizes a biomechanical and functional approach to understand how the spine and the extremities are truly integrated when an injury occurs. In his spare time, he loves to walk his Australian Shepherd Indie, play hockey, golf, and keep active with his fiancé.
Prethy Philip is a registered member with the College of Physiotherapy in Ontario. During her practice experience, she has had the privilege of treating patients of all ages and backgrounds in various multidisciplinary settings. Prethy has experience working mainly with a wide variety of musculoskeletal and neurological injuries. Her clinical experience has allowed her to work with a multitude of knowledgeable physiotherapists, as well as provide the experience of actively applying her education. Her treatment strategies include education, manual therapy, joint mobilization, soft tissue release , individualized exercise prescription and facilitation, along with selective stretching and strengthening. She believes in a hands-on approach and client oriented goal achievement to help guide individuals to reach their full functional capacity
Doug received his Bachelor of Science with Honours degree from the University of Windsor, in 1980, and graduated from the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College in Toronto in 1984, with a Doctor of Chiropractic degree. He is in good standing with the Canadian Chiropractic Association, the Ontario Chiropractic Association, the College of Chiropractors of Ontario, and the Canadian Chiropractic Protective Association.
Doug has been taking care of the people of Windsor, and Essex County for 34 years. He joined The C.A.R.E. Institute team in June 2019. Doug looks forward to helping you to improve and maintain your general spinal health, including sports and work-related injuries. Doug has been married for 37 years. He and his wife have two children and two grandchildren.
Rita is a Registered Massage Therapist that graduated from Canadian College in 2015 right here in Windsor. Rita has experience in deep tissue massage but her wide range of services include cupping and reflexology. She is also taking advanced courses in deep tissue bamboo massage. Dr. Jason Chapieski is born and raised in Windsor. Growing up, Jason was extremely active playing hockey and baseball. He studied at Wayne State University taking Kinesiology and playing on the WSU baseball team on athletic scholarship. After undergrad, Dr. Chapieski attended the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College (CMCC) where he earned his Doctorate of Chiropractic. Dr. Chapieski has great passion for giving back to his community by working with various teams including the Windsor Spitfires, AKO Fratmen, and the Sun County Panthers hockey team.
Jason is trained in Acupuncture and is full body Active Release Techniques certified. His passion has always been on being active and helping others and he is now able to pair this with his clinical knowledge and drive his passion towards helping people return to their best functional self. He is dedicated to maintaining and improving his clinical and manual skills by taking continuing education courses. Dr. Chapieski is an evidence based, patient centered doctor that is committed to lifelong learning. Dr. Chapieski enjoys living a healthy lifestyle. He has done numerous marathons, half Ironmans and completed the 2016 Full Ironman race in Mont Tremblant. He loves to spend as much time as possible with his wife Melissa and two sons, Cohen and Pierce.
